Ongoing Training
Here at Jemima we believe that nobody has ever finished their learning journey!
Level Three training
We currently have three staff members undertaking training that will give them a level three qualification in early years. Our aim is to have all of our core staff qualified to a minimum of level three. Staff complete any written assignments in their own time but we do all we can to support their practical learning in the setting, for example by allowing them to spend time in all three age groups, providing learners with a mentor/buddy and ensuring they have time with their assessors.
Level Two vocational training
Five level 3 staff members are working on adding to their portfolios with subjects such as 'Mental Health' 'Challenging Behaviour' and 'Autism'. Again, they are completing their written assignments in their own time and we are supporting them where we can in the setting.
In-house training
All staff are expected to take part in regular training delivered 'in-house'. This year so far, we have offered 'Safeguarding' and 'Safe Food Handling and Allergy Awareness'. This training usually happens after working hours or at the weekend but our dedicated staff don't shy away from this as they know that the more knowledge and skill they have, the safer and happier the children in their care.
Other training
Staff members also attend training provided by outside agencies such as Cambridgeshire County Council and National Day Nurseries Association. This is more difficult to organise as we usually have to pay for staff cover as well as for the training but we do what we can! Recently staff have attended NDNA training on the new Ofsted inspection framework and CCC training on Safeguarding.
