WONDER, TENACITY, CREATIVITY

This is our motto and what our curriculum is based on.

We provide opportunities for children to be curious and wonder about the world around them. We encourage them to be tenacious in all they do, whether this is being independent, not giving up when trying to complete a task or finding something out - we keep trying in different ways until we succeed! We promote creativity in their thinking as well as in their play as we believe that being able to think 'outside of the box' is just as valuable as knowing facts and figures. We believe that nurturing a thirst for knowledge and supporting children's individual learning styles from the very beginning means they leave us eager to start school and ready to use that Wonder, Tenacity and Creativity within them to continue their learning journey and reach their full potential.

Summer 2024
Nursery Events

We held a mini Summer Fayre for our school leavers complete with photo booth, face painting and fun activities. Parents were invited too and it was deemed "the best day ever" by one child!

We have had visits from a baby owl from the Raptor Foundation and a lovely lady with her Guide Dog, Willow and we were so proud of the children's kindness and respect on both visits.

We have been developing our outside area and the children have been deciding what to put in the new planters that now surround our grass area.

We will be raising money again in September for Childhood Cancer month. We will be "Wearing it Gold" and holding another cake sale as well as selling golden ribbon pins.

Ongoing Training

Here at Jemima we believe that nobody has ever finished their learning journey!

Level Three training

Our aim is to have all of our core staff qualified to a minimum of level three. Staff complete any written assignments in their own time but we do all we can to support their practical learning in the setting, for example by allowing them to spend time in all three age groups, providing learners with a mentor/buddy and ensuring they have time with their assessors.

Level  Two training

We are really proud of a practitioner who has completed the first step of their Early Years training journey with us by gaining their level 2 qualification after 20 years in a completely different field. As with level 3, we do all we can to support this within the setting as we know that better qualified practitioners means higher quality provision.

In-house training

All staff are expected to take part in regular training delivered 'in-house'. In the past year, we have offered 'Paediatric First Aid', 'Self-Regulation' and 'Safe Food Handling and Allergy Awareness'. This training usually happens after working hours or at the weekend but our dedicated staff don't shy away from this as they know that the more knowledge and skill they have, the safer and happier the children in their care.

Other training

Team members also access training provided by outside agencies such as Cambridgeshire County Council and National Day Nurseries Association.  Recently team members have completed training such as safeguarding, caring for babies, curriculum planning, managing behaviour and special educational needs.

Two team members have recently completed training to become mentors so they can offer even better support to colleagues with their learning journeys.
